"MAIN GALLERY - OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Deadline May 1st, 2010

A Space Gallery is accepting submissions to our Main Gallery for exhibitions in the 2011 and the 2012 seasons. This call is for artists working in all media and is also open to curatorial proposals.

Founded in 1971, A Space, located in downtown Toronto is of the oldest artist-run centres in Canada. Applicants should consider that our programming mandate focuses on work that is politically engaged, oriented around non-dominant communities, and supportive of innovative curatorial and technical practices. We are interested in ways that artists and curators can create a space for different readings or experiences of culture and identity, in issue-based projects and in multidisciplinary projects that create a forum for dialogue and collaboration between diverse communities, including youth cultures and communities in transition.

The gallery, located at 401 Richmond Street in Toronto's garment district, features 1200 square feet of exhibition space and 120 linear feet of 10 foot high walls, with the ceiling at 13 feet. We pay artist fees to artists according to CARFAC standards.

Proposals in all media are welcome. All submissions must include:
